16th-Nov-2009 03:52 pm - feet two different sizes?
Hiya - was wondering what y'all do if say, you find that one foot has swelling issues that make it much wider than the other. This hasn't been too much of a problem till I tried to get into my winter standbys, Dansko closed-back clogs. The right is perfect, the left is painful across the top of my foot. Can I wear 2 different sizes at once? Will I fall down and trip all the time? I realize I may have to suck it up and try a different style of shoe, but the regular clogs are the only ones that seem to fit me previously, plus I have plantar fasciitis/flat feet issues to deal with.

Hung out with the law student a few more times. It's going well, I think. It's been fun. He holds my hand and puts his arm around me when we walk places. He tells me how much he loves my body and how much he likes me. It's kind of awesome.

I'm talking to a handful of guys and girls so we'll see if anything comes of that.

The ex contacted me. Apparently he made a mistake when he said he thought of me only as a friend and he is actually in love with me and wants me back. Way to completely dick me around. Jesus.

I found local support groups for overeating and codependency. Now I need to get the nerve up to go to them! Just the thought alone is quite terrifying.
16th-Nov-2009 04:06 pm - Skirt

Vest, Cardi, Leggings - Evans
Skirt - Me
Shoes - TUKs
Necklace - Next

Hey everyone! Haven't posted for a while, but I made this skirt today and thought I'd show it off here. My mum recently bought a lovely tweed tulip skirt from Next, and I so wanted it, but of course they didn't come in my size. So I decided to make my own. I got the tweed fabric from Ebay, in a colour that suits me (the one my mum got was brown mainly, which doesn't suit me anyway). It took about 4 hours for me to make, is unlined (because wool is pretty heavy/warm/opaque), and has a button and zipper closure at the back.

I probably wouldn't actually wear the knotted cardigan with this normally, but we are having our bathroom redone, and the new bath is blocking my wardrobe(I use a built in cupboard in the hall), so I had to make do with some clothes that were already in my room. Underneath is just a vest top, but I really hate my arms, so covering with the cardi had to be done. In future I will probably wear this skirt with a plain tshirt, tights and patent pumps, as opposed to the leggings, cardi and kitty shoes.

A hard day to be inside my head. Too sad for proper functioning.
14th-Nov-2009 10:36 pm - fats need dates too!
so i know that this is not fatshion related really, but i trust you fatties more than anyone else to give me good advice, and... perhaps some other people are interested in my question and have not had the chutzpah to ask.

has anyone had any experience with online dating? i know... i know... I KNOW. its online dating, but i'm SERIOUSLY lonely right now, and i have some (skinny) friends who have met a few great guys online and have been having a lot of fun. are there sites that cater to fats looking for dates? i guess if anyone has any general advice in this area... let me know!

thanks all, and love love love.
15th-Nov-2009 04:49 am - A slideshow of Fatshion
Hey guys!

Under the cut I have a few pictures that showcase some of my favorite pieces and outfits (plus a few funny photos of bad fatshion growing up!)...Very few of these pics were taken to showcase my outfits though, so use your imagination!

I think I should institute a Laura Neurosis Index that tracks the number of times I change my clothes before leaving the house on any given day. Sundays count double. Today's Laura Neurosis Score: 6.
14th-Nov-2009 10:03 pm - ootd x2
Back in October a group of Chicago fats met up for brunch. We had great food, great conversation and visited Vive la Femme, a plus size boutique here in Chicago. This was my first trip to VLF and it was like I'd stepped into a fairy tale. All the clothes were made for bodies like mine! I was with a group of women who understood the struggles I face when buying clothes. We had show and tell and it was just the best experience. I walked away with the most gorgeous dress - it is the most expensive dress I've ever purchased - even more than prom and bridesmaid dresses, but this dress was like Cinderella's slipper. Three of us tried it on. One girl didn't fill out the top. Another filled it out a little too much. Then in a "what the hell" moment, I tried it on. It fit perfectly. See the dress and an interview outfit under the cut.

I went out again with the law student. Drinks and DVDs. We're supposed to get together tomorrow or Monday.

Today I met the future librarian for coffee. He's no longer an option. Basically, he's really codependent, thinks I'm wonderful, can see himself falling hard for me, and says there's no way he could be with me in a healthy way right now. Oh well. Lesson I take from this: I'm just too damn awesome!

A dancer from the strip club Abby and I went to sent me a message on flickr because she recognized me! Ha! Too funny.

I contacted a few organizations about wanting to volunteer with them. Hopefully I hear back.

I'm ridiculously tired. Being back on my meds is kicking my ass. Naps galore!

I think I'm going to start looking into some support groups.
14th-Nov-2009 07:35 pm - Arrivals, and new arrivals.
Us with Pooh

We have returned from our annual pilgrimage to Disney World, and we had an amazing time (though meeting up with my beloved [info]onceupon proved impossible owing to our relentless theme-park-roaming insanity).

And if that weren't exciting enough:

New arrivals.

Tonight we adopted two new-to-us cats. The tenatively-named Wally (for his walrus-like shape) is on the left, and he's about eight years old and 23 pounds. Poor thing had to have his back shaved because he had terrible mats, since he couldn't clean himself back there on account of being so fat. On the right is pretty Penny, who's about five and 11 pounds. Apparently they were dumped at the shelter; someone who witnessed the dumper driving away took note of the license plate number and tracked the woman down. It turns out the cats belonged to her father, who was being put in a nursing home, and the woman herself was moving to a place that didn't allow cats. They are currently sequestered in the guest room, so better pictures will be forthcoming once they're a little less terrified and confused.

I hadn't really planned on adopting a cat (or cats) today; in fact I'd planned NOT to. But there was something about this motley pair of unfortunate orphans that felt right to us. Here's hoping the lord of the manor accepts his new subjects.

13th-Nov-2009 11:11 pm - A few questions
Does anyone have experience with this coat from Old Navy? Does it fit true to size?

And this is probably a long shot, but does anyone have these boots (or any Durango boots, really) and know how the calf sizes are? Mine's about a 15-16" and I'd like to make sure those fit before I buy them.

Thanks all!
13th-Nov-2009 09:06 pm - seeking bras! help a girl out?
i am forever buying bras & then ditching them cause they are never right, they poke or slip or just suck. normally i buy a 40dd, the LB girl said i need a 42dd but im pretty sure that would be too big since the 40's are sometimes loose so some of the ones i wear are 38dd's, lol anyway i guess im looking for something between a 38dd -40dd or possibley E :) and im poor, lol so if ya have anything good but fairly cheap let me know
looking for the coat pictured below, willing to purchase in either used/new condition. 3x, from fall/winter '08.

13th-Nov-2009 04:46 pm - Sorry Glamour, that's NOT plus size
I know the plus size/ not plus size debate is fairly tired, but this really annoyed me. Apparently Glamour Magazine announced that it has already done photoshoots for their issues through February with plus sized models. Their model for December is a size 8! Sorry but I don't care what way you want to spin this, that is NOT plus size. There's the argument that an 8 IS plus sized in the modeling industry, but this magazine isn't made for those people, therefore we shouldn't use their definitions.
